Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - It may have been the break through weekend that the MSU Moorhead football team has been waiting for.

The Dragons won their first conference road game since 2010, beating Northern State on Saturday in a 47-46 shootout win.

Scoring hasn't been an issue for Steve Laqua's team. They're averaging 30 points per game, nearly double what they averaged a year ago.

They're also racking up 406 yards per game, something they didn't even do once last year.

Oh, and they rushed for 300 yards last week, the first time that's happened in over a decade.

Steve Laqua, MSUM Head Coach: “We have rushed for 56 more yards in 5 games than we did in an entire season last year. So we have put up about as many points in half a year as we did last year. So we have been putting up yards and points here like we haven't done in a long time, so I think anytime you are creating offense and creating points it always lets your defense know hey we got a shot in this thing.

Jake Hodge: “We are not too surprised; we thought we were going to be a good team this year. We are just trying to show people and prove to other people we are a good team.”

The Dragons will need all that offense and then some this weekend when they host 11th ranked Minnesota-Duluth.
