WEST FARGO – Authorities are warning area hotels to be on the lookout for drug shipments from overseas.

According to a written statement released by West Fargo police:

Area law enforcement agencies were notified by FedEx last week that the company was in the possession of a suspicious package containing an illegal drug called Khat.

The package weighed 113 pounds and was shipped from overseas to a West Fargo hotel.

The statement from West Fargo police said it appears someone is mailing packages to area hotels under different names and notifying the front desk they plan to stay at the hotel that night and want staff to sign for any packages for later pickup.

Police are asking hotel staff to watch for suspicious behavior and to report any suspicious calls relating to accepting packages for guests.

Khat contains a controlled substance called cathinone and it is illegal to possess, according to West Fargo police.
