Surveillance helps search for Dilworth Auto Plaza robbers

Dilworth, MN (WDAY TV) - Two police departments are teaming up to try and catch a group of people who robbed an Auto Plaza.

Dilworth, MN (WDAY TV) - Two police departments are teaming up to try and catch a group of people who robbed an Auto Plaza.

It happened in Dilworth, but West Fargo detectives are jumping onboard to break this video down.

You can clearly see three suspects wrestle an air compressor into the back of a red pickup.

With this type of technology, police say it's getting easier and easier to track criminals down.

Can you believe these suspects pulled right up in broad daylight? It happened back on September 29th around 7 a.m. Luckily, cameras were rolling.

Gene Gebeke- Dilworth Auto Plaza: "It was about like this, by about six feet tall."

And mighty heavy to hustle into a truck, not to mention it's valued at upwards of $700.

Gebeke: "There he is. He's getting out of his truck."

It was a different robbery only a few months back which pushed Gene to go out and buy a surveillance camera.

Gebeke: "Someone had a drop-cam and alerted them when a prowler was in the garage, so I went online and bought one. And it worked so well, I bought another one for the front."

At just $149 a pop…

"Then these other two people show up."

…Gene says it's well worth the cash. And because West Fargo Police has such an advanced system to enhance the video…

Detective Derek Cruff- West Fargo Police: "Try to make things a little better, sometimes it will make it worse."

…Detective Derek Cruff is on the case; one of many investigations which have turned up video like this.

Cruff: "Anything you can add for knowledge is great for us because even to have a description of a car, if I couldn't have that before, it's something new that we have now to go off of."

And to think of all the break-ins, car lifts and such around the valley…

Gebeke: "You can hear them load it right there."

…it sounds like a little camera like this could really cut down on crime.

Gebeke: "I feel kind of violated, yeah. I just hope they can catch them."

If you recognize anyone or this pickup, you're encouraged to call police.
