Grand Forks, ND (WDAY TV) - Expectations never change much if you're the UND men's hockey team, but as Dave Hakstol's squad began another season tonight, one thing is different. The league UND is playing in. Goodbye WCHA.

Hello NCHC, or National Collegiate Hockey Conference. Where there is no history, only history to be made.

Tonight was an exhibition against the University of Manitoba.

First period, UND's Mark McMillan to Drake Caggiula, pretty play, 1-0.

A minute later, Michael Parks steals the puck and he's going to finish it off in fine fashion.

2-0 UND after a period.

Clarke Saunders got the start in goal for the green and white, and in the 2nd, he stopped a penalty shot by Jordan DePapp.

In the final period, Grand Forks' product Luke Johnson gets his first career goal in his first career game.

3-0 UND.

They go on to win their only exhibition of the season.

Dave Hakstol- 10th year UND head coach: "I thought we really started out the game trying to play with some structure and as we got moving through the game, our five on five play, just the flow of our five on five play improved."

Regular season starts Friday as UND hosts Vermont.
