Detroit Lakes, MN (WDAY TV) - Two Detroit Lakes natives are coming together to take down the stigmas of mental illness.

One man, a film producer; the other battling severe depression.

The ideas born when two old friends came together.

Dylan Archer- Battling Mental Illness: “We ran into each other here in DL after years apart.”

Joe Olivier- “Going Mental” Co-Producer: “We were looking for a character for quite a while."

Producer Joe Olivier and Dylan Archer used to walk the same hallways in Detroit Lakes.

Olivier: “He always had a deeper story.”

Joe now searching for someone to star in his documentary surrounding mental health…

Archer: “Ha, seemed like a perfect candidate for what they were looking for.”

And Dylan, on a self-discovering journey towards a new beginning, while confronting his dark past.

Archer: “I was teetering. I was on the verge of killing myself of not, and luckily I didn't.”

The group's strong stories and great ambitions alone aren't enough. They're trying to raise $100,000 on kickstarter.com to bring this idea of life.

Archer: “We started talking about it when there are things like Sandy Hook or yesterday's shooting at the Capitol, but nobody seems to really dive into it.”

Dylan's going head first to tackle the stigma of mental illness.

Archer: “People say mental illness and you think, oh, something is wrong with him or her.”

Olivier: “We're hoping to kind of break that barrier and really just start the conversation about it.”

A conversation centered around Dylan in Detroit Lakes...

Archer: “I can't wait to get out there and talk to people.”

Then, traveling the world to spread his message.

Filming is set to begin in November. If you would like to help donate to the project, visit kickstarter.com, and search "Going Mental."
