WILLMAR, Minn. (AP) — Willmar broadcasting pioneer and philanthropist Bill Linder has died. He was 92.
His son, Steve Linder, says his father died Tuesday at Bethesda Pleasant View nursing home in Willmar.
Bill Linder became involved in radio in 1940 when his parents moved to Willmar to establish KWLM Radio. Linder — then a student at the University of Minnesota — was pressed into service as an announcer.
After a stint in the U.S. Navy, Linder rejoined the family business. The West Central Tribune reports over the next couple of decades the Linder family established radio stations in Marshall, Montevideo and Willmar. The Linders also founded the Linder Farm Network.
Bill Linder was a charter inductee in the Minnesota Broadcasting Hall of Fame in 2001. His funeral is Sunday in Willmar.
