St. Paul, MN (WDAY TV) - Thursday's opening night for the Minnesota Wild and one of the key pieces they traded for last year will be staying in the Twin Cities.

The team announced earlier Thursday that they have signed Jason Pominville to a five-year contract extension. Pominville racked up nine points in 10 games with the Wild.

Jason Pominville- Wild Forward: “When you see the team is headed in that direction, why wouldn't you want to be here? They rely on you to be in a position to win and to play in a big roll, so why wouldn't you want to be here and help get it done? Hopefully, we can add some more pieces to the puzzle and get even better.”

Chuck Fletcher- Wild Head Coach: “He is willing to commit to the next six seasons to our club; to me, sends a strong message that he believes in the direction we are going.”
