Horse neglect trial cancelled

Vergas, MN (WDAY TV) - The trial for a Vergas woman charged with neglecting several horses has been cancelled.

Vergas, MN (WDAY TV) - The trial for a Vergas woman charged with neglecting several horses has been cancelled.

Instead, a plea hearing has been scheduled for December for Penny Fick.

Fick is charged with 21 counts of animal mistreatment, after six horses were found dead on a farmstead near Vergas. Another 11 horses were found malnourished.

Her husband, Bill Fick, is also facing charges in the case.

Her son, William Tompkins was sentenced to a year in jail. Tompkins had been taking care of the horses while the Ficks were in Montana.
