Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - As temperatures begin to drop, we start think about getting ready for winter.
Experts at Laney's say you need to make sure your home is ready now.
The best time to winterize is October and November before it begins to freeze; and homeowners need to check furnaces and change filters if necessary, and think about installing a programmable thermostat all to avoid more costly consequences in the colder months.
Lewis Lubka- Getting Ready for Winter: “If I look at the thermometer and it's 20 below, and then the furnace isn't working, then what would I do? I'd have to call them. So, a little preventive maintenance goes a long way.”
John Truhlicka- Laney’s: “When it comes to a furnace going out in your home, you'd be looking at possible water lines freezing and breaking. Then, if that ends up happening, it's going to flood the home.”
Experts say to also make sure to remove garden hoses from outside and divert sump pump discharge hoses.
