Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - The first ever Buddy Walk is set for this Saturday morning at 9a.m. at Scheels arena - an effort to promote Down Syndrome awareness and also raise money for programs and events right here in our community.

The event has been planned by many local moms involved in a group called: Up with Downs. So far, 12 hundred walkers are signed up for the Fargo event.

Besides the walk, there are informational booths, games, exhibits and more.

Mary Jo Schwengler, Up with Downs: “That there is a need for this, and people want to celebrate and promote awareness our fundraising goal was 21-thousand and this morning we had already raised 55-thousand dollars so tremendous support from the community.”

Cost of the walk is free.

The group tells us, t-shirts are $10 - unless you have an extra chromosome, they say, then they are free.
