Enrollment falls at Dickinson State University

DICKINSON, N.D. (AP) — Dickinson State University enrollment numbers show the number of students at the western North Dakota school has fallen by nearly 42 percent in three years.

The Dickinson Press reports that the university's official fall enrollment is 1,449 students. That's down from 2,482 in 2010.

Ken Haught, dean of the university's College of Arts and Sciences, says Dickinson State is not as crowded as it once was. But he says higher admission standards mean the school has a dynamic student body that is better prepared to succeed.

An enrollment scandal at the university became public late last year, leading to the eventual firing of former DSU President Richard McCallum.
