Wahpeton, ND (WDAY TV) - Last season Wahpeton's offense was stuck in neutral, only scoring over 40 points once.
This year, they're averaging an absurd 43 and a half points per game.
The most in class 2-A.
And Quarterback Jack Christensen is the one holding the keys to the offense,
Jack Christensen wears purple on Friday's, but he likes to compare his game to a guy that wears green and gold on Sundays.
Jack Christensen- Wahpeton Sr. Quarterback: “If I had to say one it would be Aaron Rodgers, Packers all the way.”
Christensen might just be the Aaron Rodgers of North Dakota high school football, his numbers are outrageous, and he’s passed for 12 touchdowns and rushed for 10 more, while leading his team to a perfect 5-0 record.
Christensen: “Yeah, it's a lot of fun when we can run the ball and throw the ball, do whatever we want. If we can put up points like we have. We'll be good all year.”
Hunter McCall- Wahpeton Sr. Center: “Most of our offense is based on Jack making decisions and most of the time, he makes the right decision and helps us score points and everybody like scoring points and winning games.”
A year ago things were a lot tougher for Christensen, as a junior he entered the season as the Huskies starting quarterback.
But, he suffered a foot injury in the team's season opener and lost the starting job.
Christensen: “Foot got turned in the bottom of the pile and I was really mad about it. But, I couldn't let it affect everyone else on the team. So I just had to keep my mouth shut and keep working hard. Hopefully, I'd get another chance.”
Now, in his senior season, he's making up for lost time.
In a game against Lisbon earlier this year, he set a new Wahpeton record with 5 passing touchdowns in one game.
Brian Dokken- Wahpeton Head Coach: “When I first got here. We'd hardly throw the ball 5 times in game and the great thing was that Jack kept wanting to throw the ball. That was good.”
Christensen: “All the work we put in is really starting to show on the field, I think because we've been winning.”
Something that has Huskies fans already thinking about a deep postseason run.
On Friday, the 4th ranked Huskies travel to 3rd ranked Shanley, we'll have that big showdown for you live on WDAY 6-3.
