Moorhead, MN (WDAY TV) - He’s been a fixture in the third base coaching box at Concordia for over three decades, but after next season, Bucky Burgau will no longer be there.

The winningest coach in MIAC history announced today that he's stepping down after the 2014 season to become an assistant coach and Chris Coste will take over the job.

Burgau took over as head coach of the Cobbers in 1979, leading them to 3 MIAC championships and a Midwest Regional in 1995, he turns the reigns over to the best player in Cobber history in Coste, a former World Series champion.

Bucky Burgau- In 35 seasons: 662-529-6: “With my involvement with the RedHawks in the summertime I don't want to give that up yet. The recruiting had become a real chore for me and Chris did a great job this past summer recruiting. I firmly believe that the head coach should be heavily involved with the recruiting. Chris is a great, great baseball coach.”

Chris Coste- will replace Burgau in 2015: “I joked with Bucky when I was 19-years old that I wanted to take his job. I worked for him in the equipment room back when I was 19-20 years old. And I knew back then that he had the best job on campus. He doesn't make a lot of money, but he loves what he does. There's not a day where he's not happy about what he does. And he loves coming to work every day.”

Coste has been an assistant the last 2 years at Concordia, Burgau still will coach with the RedHawks as he mentioned.
