FARGO - Cable One, a major TV provider in the Fargo-Moorhead area, is dropping CNN and several other channels from its lineup.
Effective Tuesday, the cable provider is dropping all Turner Network channels because its contract with the entertainment company expired, and a new one was not negotiated. Turner Network also owns CNN en Espanol, Headline News, Turner Classic Movies, TruTV, and Boomerang.
“Cable One has been in negotiations to renew our contract with Turner Network for the past several months and we have made every effort to reach a fair deal,” Cable One CEO Tom Might said in a press release announcing the change. “However, Turner has demanded an increase of nearly 50% for channels with steadily declining ratings. Since we were unable to reach a fair deal with Turner, we’ve been forced to drop these channels from our channel line-up.”
Cable One still hopes to reach an agreement with Turner that would bring the channels back on the air, the press release said.
Cable One serves 730,000 customers in 19 states. The company also provides Internet and telephone service.
