Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - There's a performer in town this weekend who unintentionally stirred up a whirlwind when she announced she's gay.

Jennifer Knapp is a Christian performer. She ended up plastered over national media after coming out - leading some to ask: can you be gay and Christian?

Knapp's performance is fittingly titled 'inside out faith' and it has transformed into more of an event than a concert --It's half sharing her journey and half Christian rock.

She's a Grammy-nominated artist. And she's taking this path of unashamedly embracing her faith and her sexual orientation. It has led to praise by many and religious descent by others.

Knapp says she performs in the south where people won't talk to her, because then they'll be stereotyped as gay.

She feels she's helping the world to be a better place.

Jennifer Knapp, Inside Out Faith: “It wasn't just an LGBT thing but a lot of people relate to that, that what is this one thing that if I tell everyone about me will people still like me will I still have an opportunity to celebrate and give my gifts out.”

Knapp performs Friday at 7p.m. at the Memorial union on NDSU's campus then Saturday at 7p.m. in downtown Fargo at Studio 222.
