Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - The job hunt is on in Fargo. But it's not only for applicants, but employers, hoping to fill thousands of open positions.
Companies from all different industries are having a hard time filling positions.
And it's led to one of the worst labor shortages our area has ever seen.
For much of the workforce, it may not seem like a bad problem to have... More open jobs in Fargo, than people currently looking for one.
Karen Witzel, Spherion Regional Sales Manager: “They're all screaming for people. We really are a resource for entry level candidates to career professionals.”
That's where Spherion steps in, helping connect other companies with the right people to fit the part.
Rachel Campbell: “I'm a recent graduate and I am just starting that hunt.”
Witzel: What we're seeing is every industry sector, every skill set, they're all hiring.
Right now there are about 49 hundred job openings in Cass County. Spherion alone has three to four hundred of those. The only problem is there aren't enough qualified applicants to fill all the empty positions.
Witzel: “That's where the labor shortage comes in.”
Spherion is one of 70 plus companies heading out to Fargo's job fair, hoping to attract the area's best and brightest, to its new businesses.
Campbell: “Because Fargo is an up and coming place, there is a lot of people coming here, so jobs kind of go away really quickly too, just as fast as they come up."
Because if they don't find enough qualified candidates, the quality of service ultimately suffers.
