Moorhead, MN (WDAY TV) - A Moorhead man continues his amazing recovery after a simple misstep on a flight of stairs caused a fall and significant brain bleed that changed his life.

At the age of 76, Everett Bjerke of Moorhead never thought he would have to learn how to walk again.

Today, Tara Haj runs Everett through some of his final rehab. This compared to just two months ago, when he could not walk. After a brain bleed meant surgery, intensive care, and weeks of rehab.

Bjerke: “I did not remember any of it. I could not raise my right leg.”

Everett had just finished golfing and eating at the Hawley Golf Course, he was carrying a to-go box when he slipped and fell and hit his head on a concrete wall.

Marilyn Bjerke, Everett’s Wife: “I wondered at the beginning where we were going to be.”

The fall resulted in several brain contusions that resulted in brain bleeds that impacted Everett's ability to walk. He has graduated from a hospital bed, to wheelchair, walker, cane, and to this.

Everett: “More appreciation for what I have.”

At 76, Everett still works full time. He went to work a day after he was discharged. Now, he hopes to get enough strength back in his legs that he can dance in Mesa this winter.

Get some weight in those toes.

Marilyn: “We are fortunate, he is fortunate.”

Everett's rehab team says his motivation and commitment to improve, helped immensely in his recovery.
