Dilworth, MN (WDAY TV) - The City of Dilworth is taking the first steps toward hiring a new Police Chief, and trying to bury the hatchet on the last 10 months.
In December, Dilworth Police officers voiced a “no-confidence” in then Police Chief Josh Ebert.
In February, the City Council announced Ebert would keep his job, but was put on probation. That probation period was extended in late August, and Ebert resigned 10 days later.
I asked Mayor Chad Olson tonight if they'll go about hiring a new chief differently than what they did for Ebert. He responded: Absolutely.
Monday night, the City Council appointed Dilworth's senior officer as Interim Chief. That'll cover the position as the city works out a deal with the Minnesota Chief's Association to find a more permanent fill-in for the position. Mayor Olson says that'll give the city more time to do a thorough search.
Here's his response to the council moving beyond the last 10 months:
Mayor Chad Olson- Dilworth: “You breathe a sigh of relief and then you embrace the challenge that's in front of you, so you make sure that as you go forward, you can do the best job you possibly can when you're serving the community.”
A deal will likely be worked out by Dilworth and the Minnesota Chief's Association in the next couple of weeks, and the council could accept it at the next meeting in October.
