Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - One of the Bison's biggest 11-year-old fans is smiling from ear to ear.
Jordan Peterson returned to school after almost a year away for transplant surgery.
He had his own cheering section, a special guest and a ride to school in style.
Jordan had been down in Texas with his family recovering after a long journey to get a double lung transplant.
Students could not wait for him to get back; a remarkable start to the school week for students at Oak Grove Elementary who lined the sidewalk and raised their voices to welcome back fifth grader Jordan Peterson, arriving in Bison style with his brother, Jesse.
Jordan Peterson- Returns To School: “Exciting; at first it was kind of like, I didn't know what to do.”
Grayson Wetch- Jordan’s Friend: “It was really fun to see him for the first time in almost a year.”
About a year ago, Jordan left his friends and Oak Grove for Texas, where he spent 11 months waiting for and recovering from a double lung transplant.
Jordan Peterson: “Well, I remember it was getting kind of cold. I'd go outside and would just cough and cough.”
His energy and health far from where they are today…
Jordan Peterson: “I'm feeling really, really good.”
Dan Peterson- Jordan’s Dad: “It brings closure to the last year.”
And as he made his way inside, a surprise guest soon greeted him.
Craig Bohl- Bison Football Coach: “There's many examples of true heroes that are out there; examples of people who overcome hard times and adversity. There's no better example than Jordan.”
A perfect ending and fresh beginning for a boy who fought so hard.
Dan Peterson: “He just has that gift that he's been prepared for this.”
Annette Peterson- Jordan’s Mom: “He is a hero. I mean, for us; for me. He lifts us all up.”
And touched so many lives along the way.
Jordan Peterson: “Honestly, I didn't think that this was going to happen.”
Jordan says he plans to start playing hockey in October.
