Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Her name is Loretta. And besides ESPN's GameDay on Broadway this weekend, she is the talk of downtown.
If ever there was an effort to bring a building from the ashes, it is Doug Burgum's dream and renovation of the Loretta Building in the heart of Broadway.
Project Manager Mark Johnson walked us through downtown's newest pride and joy - the Loretta at 210 Broadway.
Mark Johnson- Project Manager: “Old gym floor, came from a gym in Texas, this is the dream room.”
A building put up in Fargo back in 1909 has new life, thanks to a $10 million facelift and addition.
Johnson: “4th floor, brand new construction, we went up added 8 thousand sq feet more space with the addition.”
A blend of old and new, contemporary and classic; sunlight and well-worn bricks, the Loretta is four floors of history and future.
Johnson: “This is the old hoist way, old freight elevator. This is from an old gym floor and stage from Hallock demolished in, and re-purposed wood, milled down and stained.”
The unique elements here at the Loretta are endless, from a gym floor to this fire door with a story.
Johnson: “What happened here if a fire broke out, heat would melt a tungsten element and releases weights and door would shut because of gravity.”
A classic looking and high tech board room for tenants, complete with a patio overlooking downtown. Today, the Game Day extravaganza.
Johnson: “Granite tile paver granite counter top remnants.”
Several business tenants already occupy the Loretta, more are expected. As downtown continues its dance with Renaissance.
Johnson: “To bring these buildings back to use is incredible.”
The renovation and construction took three years.
