GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — An executive for a Norway-based oil company operating in the North Dakota oil patch says the industry needs to do a better job of telling its story.

Statoil president Bill Maloney was a featured speaker at the North Dakota Petroleum Council's annual meeting that wrapped up Wednesday in Grand Forks. His company has been in the state since 2011.

Maloney says oil company officials need to be more forthcoming, not only within the industry but also with "folks that benefit by it all the way down the line."

He says the failure to talk "in an outside voice" could be the reason for some of the negative publicity associated with the oil business.
