Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - At 24 years old, John Wheeler would become just the 4th weatherman and 1st meteorologist at WDAY. He too would replace a legend in Dewey Bergquist.

His early roots were in the South - Louisiana and Alabame - but admits he lost the southern accent in middle school when his family moved to Wisconsin, and later Iowa, where he went to college at Iowa state. He was a weekend meteorologist in Iowa and just about to give up meteorology when he applies to WDAY.

It was a fast fit. The Valley quickly came to rely on John and his accurate forecasts. To tell us about the good days, and the days that would go down as the worst.

What Dewey started with a chalkboard and flip cards, John took forward into the computer age to now high-tech, animated storm coverage to keep our community safer.
