Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - You might have spotted these if you've been in downtown Fargo.
Thousands of pink and blue flags popping up in front of a church along Broadway.
It's really a site to see.
St. Mary's Cathedral is using this very-visual message to show how many abortions have been performed since Roe vs. Wade.
And people are taking notice.
Take a ride down Broadway and these neon-mini messages might take you by surprise.
Some pink, some blue, for the boys and for the girls - 66 thousand to be exact.
Jenna Larson, Passerby: "It's probably about a big cause or something pretty drastic."
That's the number of abortions, just in North Dakota, since Roe vs. Wade.
Lindsay Anderson, Passerby: "It makes you feel kind of sad to know that there were that many babies that didn't get to make it into the world."
Dan Anderson, Passerby: “Especially in North Dakota, like you wouldn't think it would be that high."
A scene, slowing nearly everyone who decides to walk by - and that's the Cathedral's goal.
Joseph Goering, Cathedral of St. Mary: "It's certainly very striking. Each individual life is important. And each individual flag represents a life."
Fifty volunteers spent hours planting the flags, hoping to honor what could have been.
Larson: "Some things happen like rape and stuff. And that can be really hard for the women to remember, ya know, look at that child and remember, I was raped."
Instead serving as a surprise for what has been done.
The flags were removed this afternoon.
But, next summer, a permanent memorial will be built in the Bismarck area, honoring each one of the flags which represents unborn children.
