College GameDay location facing backlash

Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Most fans are ecstatic ESPN is here; others are furious it's being held downtown.

Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Most fans are ecstatic ESPN is here; others are furious it's being held downtown.

Now, some are protesting to get College GameDay to move their location on Saturday.

Our iconic Fargo sign: That's what prompted producers to pick downtown. The problem is this spot is a seven-minute drive from where all the action will be at the FargoDome. Fans I talked to Monday say that's okay, but that's not the message being sent online.

Football is no longer just for the field because come Saturday, four quarters of Fargo fame will be highlighted from these downtown streets.

Patrick Johnson first found out while he was watching football last Sunday.

Patrick Johnson- Bison Fan: “About thirty text messages in a row in about ten minutes when we were on a trip this weekend to the Vikings game.”

And thinks the location is prime.

Johnson: “Big thing for the college and a big thing for the town.”

Producers pinned 3rd Avenue and Broadway as their first pick.

Chelsey Ehlen- Everett’s Barber: “Obviously there’s a lot of buzz.”

"Gotta cheer for the hometown."

Chelsey Ehlen and her sister, Maureen…

Chelsey Ehlen: "You gotta be a Bison fan."

Run Everett's Barber shop: A family owned business with a long line of Bison fans.

Maureen Cannon - Everett's Barber: "I grew up with my dad taking me to Bison games as a kid."

So when the two found out College GameDay will air here...

Maureen Cannon: "All I thought was what time do I have to start setting up outside?"

The two felt like they scored.

Chelsey Ehlen: "Right outside our door."

But jump online, and fans don't quite feel the same. Some fans going as far to create this Facebook page, pushing ESPN to move the broadcast.

Back on the street…

"I’m getting more and more excited. I think this will be a great showing for Fargo."

Things are beginning to calm down; fans admitting this is a once-in-a-lifetime kind of game.

"Obviously getting GameDay to Fargo is a huge get for Gene Taylor and NDSU athletics."
