BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota's game agency wants people to report any sightings of whooping cranes during the fall migration, so they can be tracked.

The Game and Fish Department says sightings of the birds that are on the endangered species list will increase over the next several weeks.

The cranes are about 5 feet tall and are bright white with black wing tips. They extend their long necks straight forward while flying, while their long, slender legs extend out behind the tail.

Anyone sighting whoopers should record the date, time, location and what the birds were doing, and report it to a local, state or federal game agency.
