VALLEY CITY, N.D. (AP) — A garden honoring a Valley City State University student who was killed in her off-campus apartment continues to bloom seven years after she was killed.

Twenty-two-year-old Mindy Morgenstern was strangled and stabbed to death on Sept. 13, 2006. Former Barnes County jailer Moe Gibbs was convicted of murder and is serving life in prison without parole.

Several Valley City residents created a memorial garden in the spring of 2007 to honor Morgenstern. The garden has a bench and a memory book for people to read and write about her.

One of Morgenstern's college instructors, Sharon McCarriar, mows the grass and weeds the garden on a weekly basis. She tells the Valley City Times-Record that the garden should be a reminder of Morgenstern's love of life.
