Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Taylor Swift, the Bison home opener, Big Iron: Those three events brought in more than 130,000 people to the Fargo-Moorhead area.

Who benefits? Local businesses.

Finding a hotel room in the Homewood Suites during a big event is almost impossible. It's within walking distance from the FargoDome, and this hotel was booked for this past weekend, eight months ago.

The Homewood Suites has 73 rooms available. They were booked solid from Thursday through Saturday night. That's more $35,000 for just three nights.

Tom Kasper- General Manager, Homewood Suites: "One of the things we're seeing is people will start reserving their hotel rooms even before the tickets go on sale so they can be close to the venue."

But it's not just hotels that feel the impact of big local events.

Jeremy Leichtenberg- General Manager of Rising Bread Company: "Usually with the big events, we have to go about 15 to 20% higher on the weekends for us."

Leichtenberg says they'll make an additional 150 sandwiches when big events roll into town.

Leichtenberg: "Sometimes, lines can go all the way."

But the rush means business and an increased bottom line.

Charley Johnson- President of Fargo-Moorhead Convention and Visitors Bureau: "It's all a good form of economic impact on the community. It's the purest form of the economic development on the community."

And it's development that happens all year round in the Fargo Moorhead area because of conferences, high school activities and another big one: The Fargo Marathon, and more than 20,000 runners.

All hoping visitors at these events say one thing.

Johnson: "Well, that was really fun. I think we'll go back to Fargo some time."

It's going to be a busy next couple of months for hotel staff here with the Bison games and the Justin Timberlake concert coming up in November.

And that's a reminder if you're going to any of these activities: Make your reservations more in advance. Rooms do fill up quickly.
