West Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - A rear-end crash sends two people to the hospital this morning, and a mess for clean-up crews as liquid chemicals were leaking into a nearby ditch.

It happened on County Road 17 in West Fargo at 8:30.

Police say a lawn care truck rear-ended a vehicle stopped at an intersection.

That lawn care vehicle's 250 gallon fiberglass tank leaked fertilizer and weed killer into a nearby ditch.

Chief Roy Schatschneider- West Fargo Fire Department: "When we first arrived on scene out here, we hand-dug a couple of trenches to contain it. Then, the city brought over a bucketful of dirt, so we were able to burm it up and contain everything. Fortunately, we were able to stop it before it got into the water in the ditch."

Firefighters say there was no fire risk or immediate health risk from the chemicals.

Both drivers were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
