Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - It is a day of celebration in Fargo, honoring the relationship between the people here and our friends all the way in Japan.

Fargo city leaders welcomed delegates from a Japanese cultural exchange society for a ribbon cutting for a new Japanese-style garden coming to town.

It's called the Garden of Mind and Soul.

To commemorate the event, the delegates presented city officials with a historical gift.

The Hina Doll Collection symbolizes the friendship between Okayama and Fargo, as well as Japan and the US.

Virginia Johnson- NDSU Professor: “We have had a special friendship. It is the symbol of a wonderful friendship with Japan.”

The state also received a doll from Japan back in 1927. It's currently housed on NDSU's campus.
