Dilworth, MN (WDAY TV) - After months of controversy, Dilworth's Police Chief is resigning. It comes nearly a year after his entire staff requested it.

The Dilworth City Council unanimously approved Josh Ebert’s letter of resignation tonight. The mayor says they got the letter just 30 minutes before the meeting.

Last year, Ebert was placed on paid leave following allegations that he was ill-equipped to handle the job.

Ebert declined to comment on camera, but told us after 18 months it's time for him to move on.

Josh Ebert- Dilworth Police Chief: "In my short tenure as Chief, I have professionally and ethically conducted myself through difficult and challenging circumstances."

Olson says while they search for a new chief, the Sheriff's Office will help with scheduling and leadership roles.

Chad Olson- Dilworth Mayor: “We have six full-time officers, two part-time, and they're going to continue to work. The day-to-day operations will not change for the city of Dilworth, so we will be maintaining the high quality of public service and public safety that we always have that will not change.”

The council tonight agreed to pay Ebert through the end of the year.
