Grand Forks, ND (WDAY TV) - For the first time, the KEM Shriners group organized Saturday morning's parade in the downtown Grand Cities.

The University of North Dakota and the Red River Valley potato growing industry teamed up nearly 50 years ago to market athletics and home grown potatoes.

Organizers say there were about 100 parade entries and thousands of people lining the streets to get a look.

Loren Hoheisel- Enjoying the Parade: "It's really awesome to see everyone get together and enjoy the last couple of nice days we have of summer."

Scott Midstokke- KEM Shriners: “It's going really well. We ended up with a beautiful day. We're very excited about taking over this parade. And what a great turnout?"

Potato Bowl festivities are continuing right now at the Alerus Center as UND's football team takes on South Dakota State.
