Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - September is Hunger Action Month, and the Great Plains Food bank in Fargo is starting it off strong.
Today was the first day of a two-day, 20-hour Packathon, where hundreds of volunteers give an hour to pack food for statewide distribution.
This morning, volunteers did everything from sorting food items to packing food pantry boxes, so that they can be easily delivered.
The food being packed will be a part of 266 feeding programs in North Dakota and Clay County in Minnesota -- feeding more than 100 communities.
Mark Lester- Volunteer: “People that volunteer for this kind of stuff; everybody enjoys doing things that can help others and maybe those who are less fortunate or whatever. It's just a really feel good thing for a lot of folks.”
The group hopes to pack enough food for 50,000 meals.
