Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Flu season is already upon us and a lot of people in the metro are already heading to the pharmacy for flu shots.

Flu shots are available at some area pharmacies like Walgreens, but still have yet to come in to larger medical centers. Flu season usually runs from October to May, but after such a brutal season last year. Doctors say the time to act is now.

New this year, a 4 strain flu vaccine, up from 3 strains in all years prior. Doctors recommend vaccines to people of all ages to prevent flu strains and symptoms.

Dr. Avish Nagpal – Sanfod Infectious Disease: “You always hope that the next year won't be as bad but there's no way to predict it. Influenza virus mutates at a very fast rate so there's always a risk of getting a new strain which mutates.”

More than 200 Minnesotans died from the flu last year. North Dakota had 9. Sanford should be getting flu vaccines in the next few weeks.
