Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - A group of North Dakota anti-gun violence activists is calling on Senator Heidi Heitkamp to support stricter legislation.
Women from the group Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America are hitting Fargo streets to make their voices heard. They're delivering petitions and backpacks to Senator Heitkamp's office downtown calling for legislation requiring background checks for all gun sales.
The petition includes more than 41,000 signatures. Each backpack represents the number of young people killed from gun violence each day.
Mara Solberg – Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense: “Well, today I would like to show Senator Heitkamp that it's important to support background checks, and I know she has not in the past supported them, but we feel like we can urge her so that we can make a difference and save children's lives.”
Heitkamp was not in the office today. The group says it will stop at Senator John Hoeven's office in the future.
