BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A team of Japanese milling managers is heading home after a three-day tour of North Dakota.
Officials with the state Wheat Commission say the group is involved in flour production and quality control for companies in Japan and are interested in wheat breeding, production, handling and market systems in the U.S.
The Japanese millers also inspected the state's spring wheat and durum crops and met with breeding and quality specialists at North Dakota State University.
Commission officials say Japan imports nearly 120 million bushels of U.S. wheat each year, including 50 million bushels of hard red spring wheat.
