Minnesota (WDAY TV) -- You might have noticed leaves are already falling to the ground in some places around Minnesota.
With three weeks left of summer, we asked the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources about this seemingly early fall of the leaves. It turns out, this hot and dry weather plays a big role, and it extends beyond the leaves.
Linda Redemecky with MN DNR says, "Those insects that we're all afraid of Emerald Ash Borer. Is coming in and if the Ash trees are stressed now that just makes it all the more enticing for the ash borer to spread."
Officials say if we receive rain it should slow down some of the change to fall colors.
