Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- North Dakota National Guardsmen are making their way back to Fargo after almost a year in Cuba.

About 20 soldiers returned to Hector airport throughout the day, welcomed back by family, friends, and fellow guardsmen.

They had been serving overseas in Cuba, providing security for Joint Task Force Guantanamo.

Tyson Mattson is one of those men, thankful to now be in the arms of his wife and son in Fargo.

Tyson Mattson, returned from cuba, say, "it's great, it's surreal. It feels like I'm not really here but I am. Leaving my military family, coming back to my regular family, so it feels great."

Other soldiers are coming home to Minot and Bismarck today.
