MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) — The two-time defending Football Championship Subdivision winners are set to start the new season in Manhattan, Kan.

North Dakota State will be playing up a division against the Kansas State Wildcats, the defending Big 12 Conference champions who earned a berth in the Fiesta Bowl last season.

The Bison return 18 starters from a program that has posted back-to-back 14-1 seasons and defeated Sam Houston State in both FCS title games.

NDSU is 12-0 on the road the past two years.

Coach Craig Bohl's team has enjoyed success against teams in the Football Bowl Subdivision. The Bison are 6-3 against the upper tier of Division I, including wins the last three years against Colorado State, Minnesota and Kansas.

Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. Friday at the 50,000-seat Bill Snyder Family Stadium.
