Manhattan, KS (WDAY TV) - In less than 22 hours, the Bison will kick off the football season at Kansas State.

The tailgating season has already begun for NDSU fans. They're in Manhattan, Kansas, by the thousands tonight.

Tonight is the alumni event for Bison fans. And there should be 800 to 1,000 fans. Tomorrow, they're expecting 3 to 4,000 fans to show up at the stadium. According to K-state's media relations director, that's more than Texas and rival Kansas have brought in recent years. To Bison fans, that's no surprise.

Sherri Schmidt- NDSU Alumni Association: “I think it's getting bigger. I hear families setting family reunions around Bison football games. People who are not even Bison grads, or have been to Bison football games will travel in, and this is it.”

Twila Moser- NDSU Student: “I think since we're playing K-State and they've done well, we're excited about being here. It's kind of like a mini national championship.”

Wes Burnett: 86-Year-Old Bison Fan: “I find that the crowd is the most unusual collection of characters anywhere. No one from any other university is as mutty as this bunch.”

And tomorrow night, these Bison fans hope to be even nuttier, enjoying an upset win.
