Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - North Dakota corn growers are saying “thank you” to local troops in a big and delicious way.

The Corn Growers' Association hosted this Military Appreciation dinner at the National Guard heritage park today.

The group was inspired by a Kansas man named Bill Broadie, who has been serving steak meals to deploying troops since 9/11.

About 500 people attended.

Kevin Skunes- North Dakota Corn Council: "They keep us free. We're free to be the best farmers we can be, in the world. American farmers are the most productive in the world and that's because of our freedom to grow the crops we want. And our freedom is all owed to the service people.”

The corn growers' association hopes to make the dinner an annual event.
