Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Heat may be to blame for a power outage that left thousands of people without power in Fargo Tuesday night.
Some outages started around 8 Tuesday night after a conductor failure. Power, for most, came back on around 2 Wednesday morning.
At least 3,300 customers were affected in the Southern half of town for a short time, and about 2,700 in the North side of town for a few hours.
Officials say overuse could also be to blame.
Brad Sylliaasen- Xcel Energy: “When folks add air conditioners, your LCD TVs obviously take more than the old style TVs we use, so some of that incremental growth can cause us some loading issues on transformers and things like that.”
Power systems are designed to handle extreme heat and cold, but occasional outages like this do occur.
