Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - A great piece of our past today greeted retired North Dakota teachers.

For the last several months, some of the retired teachers have been building exact replicas of many one-room schools from around North Dakota.

Many of these relics still dot the landscape of our state.

The retired teachers met in Fargo today.

For the past few months, volunteers have researched the history of the schools, photographed them and now built them, complete with outdoor toilets and horse stables.

Jane Holtan- Retired Fargo Teachers Assoc.: “A lot of country schools in North Dakota there were about 4,000 at one point, every two and a half miles.”

Recently at Bonanzaville, some of the retired teachers who remember working at one-room schools recorded their story.
