Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Fargo elementary students whose classes were cancelled due to the heat will not have school for the rest of the week.
School officials decided today to extend the closure of Clara Barton, Horace Mann, Lewis and Clark, McKinley and Roosevelt.
Those schools aren't fully air conditioned.
The continued hot, humid weather is the reason for the decision.
Jeff Schatz- Fargo Public Schools Superintendent: “And that's really the problem that we've had, is that our evening temperatures have been so high, that we're not getting the cooling at night to get the air to move in the buildings so that it's reasonable. There are buildings where we've been monitoring buildings every morning and the temperatures are between 80 and 85 right away in the morning right away at six in the morning.”
To make up for missed days, the school days will be extended by 30 minutes each day from September 30th until December 20th.
Grace Lutheran School in Fargo also canceled classes for the rest of the week.
