West Fargo, ND (WDAY TV)-- One of the newest schools in the district is Liberty Middle School. It was built to keep up with the growth.

Even though it's not 100% complete, it didn't take away from the first day excitement.

It's a brand new school year for 770 6th through 8th graders. And 210 5th graders.

Na'im Salahuddin- 8th Grade: "I liked the school a lot, it was very spacious."

In a brand new school.

Alli Pieper- 8th Grade: "It's kind of fun, because you walk into a classroom and you're the first person to be in it, and there is no gum under your desk."

With a brand new principal.

Dr. Denise Jonas- Liberty Middle School Principal: "From the time they pushed the snow away, poured cement, and the bricks and mortar, to now students eating lunch."

Students were in bright and early getting back into the swing of things, checking out their lockers, new classrooms, and navigating their new schedules.

Jonas: "I did kind of feel lost a little bit, like I was running in circles."

Liberty Principal Dr. Denise Jonas says the first day had the typical first day kinks. Like scheduling and placement. Things also had to be rearranged for the 5th graders who are now calling Liberty home since their new elementary school won't be finished until next year.

Jonas: "We still have some things to clean up a bit, but by the end of the week I think we'll be doing just fine."

Parts of Liberty are still under construction, like the theater and wrestling room, but Jonas says that won't stop teachers from teaching and students from learning.

Jonas: "Any major areas that need to be worked on in our student zone will be done after student time."

Now that the first day is complete 8th graders Na'im and Alli are happy they made it through and happy they can say they'll be named the first graduating class from the brand new school.

Pieper: "Feels pretty fun, because you know you're the first people to leave."

The school should be complete mid October.
