FARGO, N.D. (AP) — The hot weather is helping some North Dakota crops mature but also putting stress on row crops.
The U.S. Agriculture Department says in its weekly crop report that rain is needed soon over much of the state to help crop development.
The spring wheat harvest, durum wheat harvest and oat harvest are all well behind average and where those crops were at this time last year.
Other crops behind average and what had been harvested last year include barley, canola, flaxseed and lentils.
Sunflower blooming is at 88 percent, which is behind last year and average.
The second cutting of alfalfa hay was 90 percent complete last week, with most of it in good or excellent condition.
