Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - The driver of a truck lost control this morning in Fargo, slamming into cars, a power pole and a fence.
It happened around 9:00 AM just off Main Avenue at 44th street. An eyewitness recalled the terrifying moments.
Mitch Ertelt - Eyewitness: "I watched him shear the pole. The gate flew off. The next thing I know, I saw him coming and it sounded like an accordion. He ended up on top of those other cars up there."
Authorities say a Fargo Tank and Steel worker was sitting in his car on break when the accident happened.
The man's car was squashed under the weight of the electric truck, but he was able to escape through the sun roof. Both men were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Steve Balstad - Assistant Chief Fargo Fire Department: "Two concerns - the truck is leaking fuel oil and power lines are down, and they're down on that fence."
Authorities say the power pole was sheered off, causing concern that the other lines would collapse. As Excel Energy worked to fix the problem, traffic was down to one lane.
It's unknown what caused the accident, but authorities say it doesn't look like drugs or alcohol played a role.
