BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A Bismarck man and woman accused of locking the woman's three boys in a basement and physically abusing them are scheduled for trial beginning Oct. 9.

Twenty-nine-year-old Kacie Schaeffer and 33-year-old boyfriend Trevor Runningbear were charged in May with felony neglect or abuse of a child. Both have pleaded not guilty and have been released on bond. They each face up to 15 years in prison if convicted.

Police say a 9-year-old boy reported to school officials in May that his mother and her boyfriend physically abused him and his 3- and 6-year-old brothers, and locked them in the basement when they weren't in school.
