Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - A nationally-known doctor and Fargo South High School graduate says what you eat has a bigger effect on your brain than you might think.

Dr. Neal Barnard says diet changes can protect the brain from memory loss, stroke and Alzheimer's.

In his new book, "Power Foods for the Brain," he says foods high in antioxidants like sweet potatoes, blueberries and green leafy vegetables are brain-protecting foods.

On the other hand, fats found in dairy, meat and eggs along with excess iron or aluminum threaten the brain.

Barnard is giving a free talk at Fargo South High School tonight at 7 p.m.
