Fergus Falls, MN (WDAY TV) - Otter Tail is known for its lakes and farm country, and now Fergus Falls Rotarians are sharing a little bit of ag with a village in Africa.

Titan Equipment agreed to work with Fergus Falls rotary on donating and shipping two tractors along with other farm equipment to a rural village in Zimbabwe.

A Fergus Falls couple, also Rotarians, was doing mission work there and helped with the details. The Rotary groups raised tens of thousands of dollars for the project.

The African country is under a dictatorship and food often becomes scarce. With the equipment and donated seed and fertilizer, the village can get land into production.

Don Westra- Fergus Falls Rotary: “At one time, Zimbabwe was the breadbasket of the southern part of Africa, so they know what the good times are and they want to get them back.”

November is planting time in Zimbabwe and so it is hoped the farmers there can use the tractors to clear land and prep the land for planting. Corn, potatoes and sugar beans are big crops there.
