West Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Thanks to a few fast acting police officers a deck fire in West Fargo was quickly put out. It happened early this morning on a second floor deck at 3426 5th Street West. A driver called police to alert them of a small fire.

Police quickly responded and put it out with an extinguisher. Typically these types of fires are started by smoking materials. This one is thought to be caused by a bag of compost or soil left in a bag in the deck.

Roy Schatschneider – West Fargo Fire Chief: β€œIt damaged the deck. There's little boards that were damaged, plus one support stringer underneath. It had a little heat damage on the vinyl siding of the apartments.”

Damage estimates aren't known.
